About our audits.

What is a web accessibility audit?

A web accessibility audit is a systematic evaluation of your website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) — the international standard for accessible digital content. An audit identifies barriers that prevent people with disabilities (visual, auditory, motor, cognitive) from using your site, and gives you a roadmap to fix them.

Why do I need a professional audit? Can't I use a free tool?

Free automated tools like axe, Lighthouse, and WAVE only catch approximately 30% of real-world accessibility issues. The remaining 70% — keyboard traps, screen reader announcement errors, cognitive barriers, focus management issues — require a human tester with assistive technology. A professional audit catches what tools miss, and produces a legally defensible record.

What WCAG version do you test against?

We test against both WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 at Level AA — the standard referenced by the ADA, Section 508, and most accessibility laws globally. We note which version each criterion belongs to, and can add WCAG 2.0 or Level AAA testing on request.

Do I need to be legally at risk to benefit from an audit?

No. Many of our clients proactively audit to expand their audience, improve SEO, meet investor or partner requirements, or simply build a more inclusive product. Legal protection is one benefit — but better usability and broader reach are equally valuable outcomes.

How it works.

How long does an audit take?

Starter audits (up to 10 pages) are delivered in 2–3 business days. Professional audits (up to 50 pages) take 3–5 business days. Enterprise engagements are scoped individually — we give you a firm delivery date before we begin. Priority 48-hour turnaround is available for urgent situations.

What do you need from me to get started?

Just your website URL and a list of pages to include. For authenticated pages (login, checkout, dashboard), we'll need test credentials through our secure intake process. If you have a staging environment, we can test that too.

Do you test authenticated or logged-in pages?

Yes. For Professional and Enterprise tiers we can test behind login flows, multi-step forms, checkout processes, and other authenticated states. We use a secure credential-sharing method and delete all provided credentials after testing is complete.

Can you audit a staging or development environment?

Absolutely. Auditing a staging environment before launch is an excellent way to catch issues before they reach production. We just need a URL and any login credentials required to access the environment.

What screen readers do you use for testing?

Our Professional and Enterprise testing includes NVDA with Chrome on Windows and VoiceOver with Safari on macOS. Enterprise engagements add JAWS with Chrome/Edge on Windows, and iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack for mobile. This covers the most widely-used screen reader combinations in real-world usage data.

Will you test our mobile site?

Yes — Professional and Enterprise audits include mobile accessibility testing covering touch target sizing, orientation lock, iOS VoiceOver on Safari, and responsive reflow down to 320px viewport width per WCAG 1.4.10.

What you receive.

What format is the final report?

You receive a professional, print-ready HTML report viewable in any browser — no special software required. We also provide CSV and JSON exports (all tiers) and a JIRA-formatted export (Professional and Enterprise). The HTML report can be printed to PDF directly from your browser.

Does the report include code fixes?

Yes — every issue in the Professional and Enterprise reports includes a code fix example showing the incorrect code and the corrected version. Starter reports include severity ratings and WCAG references, with generic guidance. The Developer Handoff service provides the most technically detailed fix guidance.

What is the WCAG conformance table?

The conformance table lists all 38 WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA success criteria and marks each as Pass, Does Not Support, Not Applicable, or Not Evaluated. This table is the core of a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) — the standard format used in government procurement and vendor compliance responses.

Can you help us actually fix the issues?

Professional audits include 30 days of remediation support — we'll answer developer questions about specific fixes via email. Enterprise clients get a dedicated accessibility consultant available for code reviews and ongoing questions. For full remediation services, contact us for a custom engagement quote.

Is your audit legally defensible?

Our reports are structured to document the methodology, tools, tester qualifications, dates, and evidence used — the same documentation elements required in legal and procurement contexts. Enterprise audits include an optional signed auditor declaration. We recommend consulting your legal counsel about using any audit for active litigation purposes.

We received an ADA demand letter. Can you help?

Yes. We regularly assist clients responding to ADA demand letters and litigation threats. Our Professional audit provides the conformance documentation and remediation roadmap most often requested in these situations. Contact us immediately — we can prioritize your engagement. Please note: we are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. Engage legal counsel in parallel.

Do you issue a signed conformance statement (VPAT)?

Enterprise engagements include a signed Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT) in the ITI template format, suitable for government procurement and legal filings. Professional tier includes the full conformance table which we can format as a VPAT on request for an additional fee.

Does passing an audit mean we're fully compliant?

An audit documents the accessibility state of your site at the time of testing. Issues we find and that you remediate improve your conformance. However, websites change — new content and features can introduce new barriers. We strongly recommend periodic re-audits (quarterly for active development, annually for stable sites) to maintain compliance. See our Legal Disclaimer for full details.

Is accessibility required by law for my website?

For most commercial websites in the United States, WCAG 2.1 AA compliance is required under the ADA. The DOJ issued final rules in 2024 specifically applying WCAG 2.1 AA to state and local government sites, and private businesses have faced successful ADA lawsuits. Requirements vary by country — contact us to discuss your specific jurisdiction and situation.

Can I publish the audit report on my website?

Yes. Publishing your audit report and/or VPAT on your website is a best practice that demonstrates good faith and transparency. Many organizations publish it on a dedicated "Accessibility" or "Accessibility Statement" page. We can help you draft an accompanying accessibility statement as part of your Enterprise engagement.

We're happy to talk through it.
